Clyburn: 'We were fully employed during slavery,' trying to discredit Trump's black jobs numbers

House Majority Whip James Clyburn dismissed President Trump’s record unemployment lows for black Americans this week by arguing that slaves were “fully employed,” too.

The South Carolina Democrat weighed in on Mr. Trump’s economy during an appearance on Fox News after host Neil Cavuto said the president had “delivered the goods for a lot of African-Americans” with record-low unemployment.

“Come on, Neil,” Mr. Clyburn responded. “It’s not true.”

“I’m saying that the African-American unemployment is not the lowest it’s ever been unless you count slavery,” the congressman said. “We were fully employed during slavery. So it all depends how you measure this up.”

When pressed on whether Mr. Trump deserves any credit for the economy, Mr. Clyburn replied, “I’ll give President Trump credit for continuing what we laid the foundation for back in 2009.”

His comment echoes that of former President Barack Obama, who on Presidents Day credited himself with “paving the way for more than a decade of economic growth and the longest streak of job creation in American history.”

Preisdent Trump scoffed at his predecessor’s assertion, calling it a “con job.”

Democrats are not interested in blacks or minorities doing better. They want to keep these people poor and out of work and dependent on the government. The second they’re free and can make their own living — which they currently are realizing under Trump's economic reforms— they’ll see that they don’t need the toxic Democrats.

Why else would Majority Whip Clyburn refuse to give President Trump any credit for the historically low black unemployment rate? Not only did he not give him credit, but he also insulted Black Americans in the process by saying the black unemployment numbers were lower during slavery because “everyone was working.”

For any black man in America today, that is just sick. For a supposedly intelligent black lawmaker, it is reprehensible.

For a the last 64 years, beginning with the 1956 elections, Democrats have taken the black vote for granted. They solidified their death-grip on that segment of the population with the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, taking credit for its passage despite having filibustered the bill for nearly eight months, led by former Ku Klan Klan Grand Wizard Sen. Robert Byrd (D-WV).

Contrary to apparent Democrat belief, the black voters in America are not stupid. They've seen these last 64 years go by with very little actual progress after the Civil Rights Act.

For that reason, their allegiances may be shifting.

Republican South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott predicted Thursday that President Trump will get at least 12% of the black vote in 2020, a 50% increase from the 8% he got in 2016. "And that is Game over," he said. "Think about a top-tier Democratic candidate that talks about harassing African-American males through stop-and-frisk," Scott said, referring to Mike Bloomberg when he was mayor of New York City. "Compare that against President Trump’s criminal justice reform packages that are making the justice system more fair for African-Americans disproportionally than it has been in a long time." "President Trump is not just talking a good game, he is walking a good game."

Perhaps Rep. Clyburn should consider that before appearing on "Cavuto Live" next time.
