Chris Murphy and other Democratic Senators held a secret meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Zarif last week, a high-level source reports. Murphy's office is not responding to repeated requests for comment.
Murphy had previously condemned secret coordination involving foreign leaders as having the potential to undermine U.S. foreign policy as described in the Logan Act. Imagine if Republicans were doing this.
According to The Federalist, Sen. Chris Murphy of (D-CT) and other Democratic senators had a secret meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Jahad Zarif during the Munich Security Conference last week, according to a source briefed by the French delegation to the conference. Murphy’s office did not respond to repeated requests for comment from American Conservative Voice.
Such a meeting would mean Murphy had done the type of secret coordination with foreign leaders to potentially undermine the U.S. government that he accused Trump officials of doing as they prepared for Trump’s administration. In February 2017, Murphy demanded investigations of National Security Advisor Mike Flynn because he had a phone call with his counterpart-to-be in Russia.
“Any effort to undermine our nation’s foreign policy — even during a transition period — may be illegal and must be taken seriously,” Murphy said in 2017 after anonymous leaks of Flynn’s phone call with Russian ambassador Sergey Kisylak were published. He also strongly criticized the open letter some Republican senators sent Iranian leaders during the Obama administration.
Apparently, it’s all right when Democrats do it.
Making this information worse is the revelation that Murphy has regularly attended meetings scheduled by Iran’s foreign policy lobby. He criticized the drone missile strike that killed Iranian Gen. Qassem Soleimani, leader of the Iran Quds Force and recognized as the world's most notorious terrorist, killing more than 600 American soldiers in Iraq over the last 20 years.
This raises questions as to what other Senators or Representative may have attended this meeting. Democrats wanted to convict Flynn for what amounted to nothing more than a “hello” to his Russian counterpart. Yet they see nothing wrong with Murphy and unnamed other members of Congress meeting with sitting Iranian officials, men who swear allegiance to the terrorist regime of Iran.
Surely Senator Murphy knows this doesn’t look good, like at all. Otherwise, he’d call us with a comment. Or perhaps, as other Democrats have shown over the past three years, he believes he is above scrutiny by the real media attempting to find truth in their bloviations.
